The Pinion Gearbox

Componentry that wears in. Not out.

All Zerode bikes carbon frames are built around the Pinion C.Line gearbox. Seamless shifts, up or down, even when your bike is caked in mud. The Gates Carbon Belt on your Katipo or Taniwha will last for years (not months) as there is no need for it to be climbing up and down clusters and the gearbox itself is a sealed self contained unit that requires little maintenance.  Best of all, your Pinion gearbox wears IN and gets even better, the MORE you ride.

pinion gearbox options

There are two gearbox options you can choose from on our Taniwha, Katipo and Mulet bikes - the 12 speed Pinion C1.12 or the 9 speed Pinion C1.9XR. Both of these options have a massive gear range, between 568% (9 speed) and 600% (12 speed).

There are a few obvious differences between the two gearboxes like weight and slight difference in range, but the difference between each gear step is the same, your granny gear on both gearboxes is your get-out-of-jail-free card on the hardest pinches, and shifting without pedaling becomes your best friend through varied terrain.

Get in touch with us to find out which gearbox will suit you best.

REAL GEARS
Real gears refer to the gear steps of a bicycle transmission that can be optimally used. In derailleur gears, the skewed running of the chain leads to significant losses of efficiency. In addition, when there are two or three front chainrings there will be redundant, i.e. equivalent, gears. A 3×10 derailleur transmission, for example, actually only offers 14 or 15 real gears from this perspective.
