New Zealand Mountain Biking is putting together a series of videos documenting every trail our local Redwood Forest has to offer, you can check out the videos here. Jamie from NZMTB needed a secure and stable way to mount his GoPro in order to get the POV shots he was after for these video. He came to us and together we designed and 3D printed this mount for his Giro Switchblade. Just to note, the bolts hadn’t been cut down yet when the photos were taken.

Thanks to the removable chin piece of the Switchblade helmet, Jamie can easily take the chin piece and camera off while he’s not filming and then easily attach it when he is. The biggest benefit of the set up of the camera however, is the location of the camera. Your head, while you ride, has a gimbal effect stabilizing motion much more than if you have a camera mounted to your chest. The normal downside of having a camera mounted on your helmet is that it is very high and you loose the perspective of being able to see your handle bars in the footage like when you use a chest mount.

This chin mount means Jamie gets the best of both worlds. Stable footage from being attached to his head while having the nice low angle like you would get with a chest mount. If you have one of these helmets and are interested in getting your hands on the file to print your own mount feel free to get in touch.
